UGA Food Science Club
The UGA Food Science Club is for anyone interested in fostering close working relationships between students and faculty whose interest is in the application of science and technology to the handling, preservation and utilization of food.
Mission Statement
The Food Science club is a student organization, a student chapter of the national organization of the Institute of Food Technologists and consists of both undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at the University of Georgia. The purpose of the club is to assist student's professional development, help students better understand society, develop teamwork skills and a sense of social responsibility and be prepared for the real world. This is done through organized student activities designed to enhance knowledge of food science, expose students to leadership roles and meet professionals employed in their fields of study.
Meetings
Meetings are held regularly every month. Food is provided at all meetings to club members.
Membership
Everyone is welcome! If you are interested in joining, please contact us through the Facebook page. Membership fee is $20 which includes free food at every club meeting, a club t-shirt, 50% reimbursement for an IFT student membership, and networking opportunities.
Phi Tau Sigma, The Honor Society of Food Science and Technology
Phi Tau Sigma is the Honor Society of Food Science and Technology, dedicated to recognizing excellence in scholarship, leadership, research, and professional achievement. Founded in 1953, Phi Tau Sigma promotes the advancement of Food Science and Technology by honoring individuals who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments and commitment to the profession.
The University of Georgia Chapter was established in 1956 and has a long tradition of recognizing and supporting outstanding students, faculty, and professionals within the Department of Food Science and Technology. Through professional development, networking, leadership, and service opportunities, the chapter encourages excellence and engagement within the food science community.
Mission
Phi Tau Sigma's mission is to recognize scholarly achievement, promote excellence within Food Science and Technology, and strengthen the profession through a community of dedicated students and professionals.
Membership
Membership in Phi Tau Sigma is earned through nomination and review and is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional academic, professional, and leadership accomplishments in Food Science and Technology or related disciplines. Members gain access to a network of food science professionals, leadership opportunities, scholarships, awards, and professional recognition.
