Charles Bency Appolon, Minji Hur, Jake McGwin and Amrit Pal have been awarded the 3-A Sanitary Standards, Inc. 2024 Dr. Ron Schmidt Student Travel Award.
Min Jeong Kang and Amrit Pal have received a 2024 UGA Graduate School Summer Research Grant, which enables doctoral students to conduct research in support of their dissertations.
Amrit Pal has also placed second in the Ag Abroad Photo Contest with a picture reflecting his views on international agriculture from College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
Pratiksha Kotkar has won the University of Georgia’s Graduate School Master’s Fellow Award.
Jouman Hassan placed first in the Center for Food Safety Student Poster Contest and has received a UGA Graduate School International Travel Award.
Jashanpreet Kaur was recognized among the top 100 for the Student Employee of the Year Award and received the 2023 CAES World Food Prize Travel Award to attend the World Food Prize Borlaug Dialogue.
Blanca Ruiz recently presented a poster at the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) European Symposium in Geneva, Switzerland. Llacsahuanga was also awarded the FMI Foundation Food Safety Auditing Scholarship. This award was given to 15 outstanding food safety scholars chosen by the FMI Foundation. Recipients receive a $3,000 scholarship and an educational travel grant to SQF Unites, an event for the global food safety and quality community.
Ujjalpreet Dhatt won the IFT Carbohydrate Hackathon( Increasing Fiber in Snack Goods) and received the IFT Feeding Tomorrow Scholarship.
Harsimran Kapoor and Abbey Pollock have been awarded the IAFP 2024 Student Travel Scholarship.
Peter Chiarelli has been awarded the Section Service Award for Southeastern Section IFT, Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Feeding Tomorrow Graduate Scholarship, Southeastern IFT Outstanding Leadership Award Secretary & Expo Chair, and a USDA NIFA AFRI Predoctoral Fellowship.
Rawane Raad has received the UGA Graduate School Hugh Boyd Scholarship and the 2023 UGA Center for Teaching and Learning Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. She also placed 3rd in the J. Mac Goepfert Developing Scientist Competition for her technical presentation at the International Association and Food Protection Conference.
Sanket Vanare and Mackenzie Bui were awarded first place in the American Egg Board's The Eggcelerator Lab New Product Development competition's national finals for their "Eggspresso" product.
The Food Science Club College Bowl team won first in the Southeastern Regional Competition, and made it to the final round at the IFT FIRST national competition. The team members are: Sanket Vanare (Captain), Johana Lilian John Muthiah, Anthony Suryamiharja, Asa Cotton Young, Elizabeth Ward, Reid Robertson.
Gabriela Brocca had the opportunity to present her research on the effects of eating pecans on the appearance of bioactive markers in blood at the International Society for Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods conference in Honolulu, HI.
