IFT Food Microbiology Division 2021 Outstanding Volunteer Award

Dr. Qing Wang of Solvay USA Inc. is recognized with the 2021 Outstanding Volunteer Award that honors a current member who provided exemplary volunteer work in the governance year 2020-‘21.

Qing holds an MS degree in Food Safety from the University of Georgia and a Ph.D. degree in Food Microbiology from the University of Delaware. She joined Sealed Air as a Senior Microbiologist in 2016 shortly after graduation and worked in the Food Care Innovation and Development team. Her role was to develop and execute test plans to assess shelf life and food quality of products and interface customers directly to sell knowledge-based training for food safety, shelf-life, sensory testing, and selection of packaging materials for various types of products. She was also responsible for leading multiple complex global projects and managed cross-functional teams to drive projects forward.

Recently, Qing joined Solvay USA Inc. as a Senior Microbiologist Expert and continues to utilize her background and expertise in food safety and microbiology. She is working to develop and launch novel surface disinfection and sanitation technologies, taking responsibility to establish and expand new test capabilities (especially in viricidal efficacy evaluation), and providing innovative ideas and technical support.

Qing is an active member of IFT FMD since 2010. She served FMD as a member-at-large (2018-2020), Content Chair/IFT Connect Super User (2020-2021), and TRP reviewer (2018-2020). Qing also served on the John Z. Ordal Oral Competition judges panel (2020). In this governance year, she will enact the roles of Co-Chair of Graduate Competitions and TRP reviews.
