Spring 2023 in Review: 

  • Southeast Regional Fruit and Vegetable Conference - Extension was a sponsor! Dr. Dunn and Dr. Critzer hosted a Bridging the GAPS training on 1/4/2023. Dr. Dunn also co-taught a Produce Safety Alliance training during the week of the conference.
  • Extension piloted the first Introduction to Farm Food Safety Best Practices workshop on 2/1. This workshop is done in partnership with Stephens County Extension Agents, Erin Harper, and Florida Organics Growers' Billy Mitchel. A second pilot program was held in Habersham County on May 15th!
  • Flavor of Georgia:
    • Barlow’s Foods won the grand prize at the 2023 Flavor of Georgia food contest for their product, Barlow’s Peach Cobbler Syrup.
  • In the Spring of 2023 Extension has:
  • Offered 6 public workshops to 85 individuals in the food industry.
  • In the last six months, our team has provided services for 89 food products. 

Coming Soon: 

  • Better Process Control School - June 6th - 9th 
  • Water Systems workshop shop in Alma, GA - July 11th (a second workshop is on August 9th in Headland, AL).
    • This is a big collaboration between UGA, University of Auburn, both state Extension teams, the FDA, the GDA, and the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries. I attached a flyer for reference
  • Brewing Success in the Craft Beer Industry - rescheduled to August 9-11th 
  • The Food Dawgs' Digest, a weekly blog post, should be up and running by the Fall semester! 
  • Fall workshops will be announced soon!
